Nothing but good things to say. Compared to previous setup where XBOX or Playstation was doubling as a DVD player through component or HDMI, this dedicated unit delivered clear crisp pictures with better overall color tone and ability to resize / shape to match animorphic and "black barred" content. HDMI output, coupled with one of the 7.1 channel systems with HDMI encoding fill in a room, even when the receiver "blends" to get the extra two channels.

I purchased this unit after reading some reviews, including earlier ones on this site and have not been disappointed. The unit setup is a breeze, plug it in and connect an HDMI cable. . . again one is not included, but available on numerous site at nominal cost.

The unit defaults to a lower resolution out of the box, but navigating the menus to set the screen resolution to 1080p took all of a minute.

Highly recommended.

The build quality is solid, as is typical with Onkyo products. Installation is a snap (basically, just plug in the HDMI cable). The HDMI cable is not included (get one from monoprice at a very reasonable cost). Easy to use menu system, and the disks load quickly. And Great picture.

great unit, great value

I purchased this player as a complement CD player for my daughter's TX8522 receiver. It matches the profile perfectly. It is not quite as deep as the receiver, so the receiver gets plenty of ventilation. One thing that bugs me a little bit, is that the LCD display is a different size and color and a bit brighter than the display on the 8522. Nothing that is too obtrusive, but it doesn't quite match.

From a performance standpoint, it does a great job. I chose Onkyo for my daughter's stereo system mainly due to the many positive reviews her and elsewhere. I have not been disappointed. It is a great value from J & R as well.

This is my third DVD player that i purchased from the Onkyo store. I have the 704, 405 and the new 406 DVD players. I love the quality of Onkyo products and always recommend them to all of my friends.
