CS-315 Beyond Expectations

I purchased the CS-315 as a secondary audio system for my livingroom. I wanted a high end stereo system (as I had for my family room home theatre) but wanted a very small footprint, unobtrusive unit for the livingroom. After looking at mini/micro systems by LG, Panasonic, Sony, JBL, etc. etc. I was becoming very disillusioned as the sound from these small footprint systems just didn't measure up to my expectations, until I found the CS-315. I was absolutely blown away by the CS-315 when I compared the sound side by side with the units I had been looking at. At 19W side (@ 4 ohm) this is a small footprint, "big" system-sounding unit that is ideal for that special room requiring either soft exceptionally clear background music or poundingly strong music for that loud party atmosphere. I am not yet sure about long term reliability, but I am much more than satisfied with my purchase.

The best surprise

Being an audio enthusiat since the mid 70s, this is my first try at an Onkyo product even though I knew way back then these products were of superior quality. So now that'it, I made the jump. I was looking for a compact system for thebedroom and I was not going to compromise on sound quality.I did not want to pay for things that I was not going to use lke dvds or xm reception, so after much research with several brands and models I went for the CS315 (not many dealers here in Canada). When I got the box home, I started unpacking and knew what to expect from the unit, but then I was greeted by a nice surprise, the speakers which we always expect to be of lesser quality with these products, seemed pretty decent. In fact, after taking a closer look at them, I was happy to discover that these were solid, well-conceived speakers with an impressive sound for the size. I had plans to use some of the many bookshelf speakers I have around with this system but I really don't have to, except for a small sub that I might eventually add for deeper bass, these do a fine job with all types of music. Bravo Onkyo! There is an absolutely beautiful small scale separate component system available in Europe called the PHA-933(B), b for black which consists of a tuner, cd player, and integrated amplifier. I would gladly replace my 20 year old full size component system by this kit but I don't think it will be offered in the Americas. Too bad!
